The Memphis Investors Group will meet today at 7 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Germantown Athletic Club, 1801 Exeter Road. A panel of local real estate investors will hold a question-and-answer session. The event is free for first-time visitors and members. Cost is $20 for repeat visitors. Prior to the panel discussion, several early-bird sessions will begin at 6 p.m.

Methodist North Hospital’s Chest Pain Center will offer a free lunch and learn series today from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3960 New Covington Pike. Cardiologist Matthew Smolin will explain how heart attacks happen and the early warning signs. To receive a free blood pressure and cholesterol screening, pre-register by calling 777-5959.

The Arc of the Mid-South and STEP will hold a workshop discussing the “BASIC Rights: A Parent’s Introduction to Special Education” today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Raleigh branch library, 3157 Powers Road. The Mid-South Peace and Justice Center will hold a forum featuring former U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski today at 7 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 1000 S. Cooper St. The public forum is titled “Abu Ghraib and Lifting the Veil of Secrecy on Iraq.” For more information, call 725-4990.

The Memphis Chapter of the Project Management Institute will hold its 8th Annual Professional Development Day Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in The Peabody hotel Ballroom, 149 Union Ave. Speakers will include Dr. William Moylan, John Mangleri and Aaron Davis. Live jazz will be performed throughout the day. A jazz soiree and mixer will be held on The Peabody Rooftop immediately following the event.
