Brentano's Bookstore will host a book-signing by Alma Westfield, the Bartlett author of "Unlocking the Door," Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the bookstore inside Oak Court Mall at 4465 Poplar Ave.

AGAPE Child & Family Services will hold its annual Heartlight Gala Saturday at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts, 255 N. Main St. Dinner is from 4:45 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the banquet hall and doors open for the concert at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $35, and discounts are available for groups. The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art will host The Avant-Garde Casino Party Saturday at 7 p.m. at the museum, 1934 Poplar Ave. Events include poker, roulette and craps tables, live music, and a full bar. The Shelby County Committee on Budget and Finance and Committee on Community Services will meet Monday at 9 a.m. in the fourth-floor conference room of the Shelby County Administration Building, 160 N. Main St.

The Memphis Lawyers' Chapter of The Federalist Society will hold "A 2007 Tennessee Legislative Update" Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Grille 83, 83 Madison Ave. The Honorable Brian K. Kelsey of the Tennessee House of Representatives, District 83, is the featured guest. Lunch is available for $15 for Federalist Society Members and $20 for nonmembers. The Engineers' Club of Memphis will hold a meeting Monday at noon at the University of Memphis Holiday Inn, 3700 Central Ave. Cost is $12 and no reservations are required. William C. Sneed Jr., Memphis Fire Department battalion chief, will speak on "West Tennessee Task Force One's Response to an 'All Hazard Event.'"
