Buys Poplar Property
St. Georges Independent School has purchased property at
8250 Poplar Ave. in Germantown from St. Georges Episcopal Church for $5.5
million, according to The Daily News Public Records Database,
www.memphisdailynews.com.
Hampton Inn Project
Restores Historic Home
More than 50 volunteers and residents are working today to refurbish
the 161-year-old Harsson-Goyer-Lee House in Victorian Village. The initiative
is the largest refurbishment to date for Memphis-based Hampton Inns "Save-A-Landmark"
program, which brings hotel employees together to refurbish cultural landmarks
across the country.
MAA Acquires
Dallas Property
Memphis-based Mid-America Apartment Communities Inc. has acquired
the 240-unit, 2-year-old Watermark apartment community in Roanoke, Texas, a Dallas
submarket. Acquisition of the property brings the companys total number of Dallas
units to 3,616. The apartment-only real estate investment trust owns or has
ownership interest in 36,952 apartment units throughout the Southeast and South-Central
United States.
Wachovia Buys
SouthTrust Corp.
No. 4 U.S. bank Wachovia Corp., based in Charlotte, N.C., has agreed to purchase
Alabama-based SouthTrust Corp. for $13.7 billion to expand its presence in the
Southeast market. The deal adds pressure for regional banks to grow in order to
compete, analysts said.
Landmarks Commission
to Meet, Elect Officers
The Memphis Landmarks Commission will hear a nominating
committee report and elect officers at a 4:30 p.m. meeting today at City Hall.
The commission also will hear a certificate of appropriateness request for a
project in the Evergreen Historic District.
