The offices of The Daily News will be closed Monday for the Labor Day holiday

The Daily News offices will be closed Monday for the Labor Day holiday. We will reopen Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

The South Main Association hosts its monthly Art Trolley Tour from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today.

Visitors can enjoy free trolley rides, refreshments and entertainment and visit shops and galleries along South Main Street. Visit www.southmainmemphis.org.

 

The Memphis Area Transit Authority will operate several transportation services on Mondays holiday.

The fixed route bus service, MATAplus service and Main Street trolley will operate on a Sunday schedule. The information center and North End Terminal will open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. MATA offices will be closed in observance of the holiday.

 

The Sharpe Planetarium at the Pink Palace Museum introduces a show titled Stars of Jade Saturday at 3050 Central Ave. The show runs through Nov. 23.

Attendees will learn about Chinese astronomy and lore.

Admission is $4.25 for adults and $3.75 for seniors and children. Call 320-6362.

 

The Ground Water Institute of the University of Memphis hosts a discussion about Mid-South water resources at 3 p.m. Sunday in Room 226 of the Ned R. McWherter Library on the U of M campus.

The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art presents the opening of In the Spirit of Martin: The Living Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The show runs Sunday through Nov. 9.

The traveling Smithsonian exhibition includes art created during Kings lifetime and as recently as 2001.

Admission is free for members and children 6 and under, $6 for adults, $5 for seniors over 65 and $2 for students with identification. Call 544-6200.

 

The Mid-South Interfaith Network for Economic Justice and the Memphis Labor Council sponsor the Faith and Labor Picnic from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. Olive Cathedral C.M.E. Church at Linden and Lauderdale roads.

Speakers include workers organizing at Freds warehouse, nurses organizing at The Regional Medical Center at Memphis and members of the Memphis Living Wage Coalition.

Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 5-12 and $25 for families. Call 332-3570.
