Bar announces election nominees
David Wade, Memphis Bar Association president, has released
the report of the nominations and elections committee.
The 2003 president is Irma W. Merrill. The vice president is
John J. Heflin III. Both automatically succeed to those positions under MBA
bylaws.
Voting members of the MBA will vote on the other officers.
Nominees for those positions are: Susan M. Clark, treasurer; and George T.
Buck Lewis III and Barbara Morris Zoccola, secretary.
In addition, MBA voting members will elect eight individuals
to two-year terms on the board of directors. Terms begin Jan. 1.
The nominees for those positions are: Allen Blair, Lara
Butler, Elizabeth Chance, Veronica Coleman-Davis, Molly Glover Crain, Donna M.
Fields, Susan A. Hinsley, Jason P. Hood, Joedae L. Jenkins, Lisa A. Krupicka,
Elijah Noel Jr., Richard A. Roberts, Jill M. Steinberg, Michael J. Stengel,
Ellen B. Vergos and Donnie E. Wilson.
Under MBA bylaws, three section representatives are elected
to one-year terms, beginning Jan. 1, on the board of directors.
The following individuals were nominated by the MBA sections
to vie for those three seats: Douglas M. Alrutz, bankruptcy section; James P.
Barry, corporate section; Teresa M. Bernhardt, real estate section; Beth Weems
Bradley, wills and probate section; Michael A. Brady, securities section;
Carolyn Howard; labor and employment law section; Hayden D. Lait; alternative
dispute resolution section; and S. Denise McCrary, divorce and family law
section.
According to MBA bylaws, any five voting members of the
association can nominate any other voting member for treasurer, secretary or
the board of directors (except section representative) not later than seven
days after publication of the Nominations Committee report.
Such nominations should be addressed to MBA executive
director Anne Fritz, 1050 One Commerce Square, Memphis, TN 38103, and should
specify the nominees name, the nominated position, and confirmation that the
nominee agrees to serve if elected. Each of the five voting members must sign
the nomination, which will be deemed filed upon its receipt at the MBA office.
