Methodist to assume

Methodist to assume

management of UT Bowld

Methodist Healthcare announced plans to assume management of the 104-bed UT Bowld Hospital Nov. 1

The Methodist Healthcare and UT Bowld boards approved the move.

UT Bowld specializes in transplants and chronic diseases, primarily of the liver and kidney.

We are very excited UT Bowld will be affiliated with Methodist University Hospital, said Gary S. Shorb, Methodist Hospitals chief executive officer.

We look forward to working with the employees and physicians during the transition.

Methodist is working with its medical center partners to build a medical center that rivals any in the country. The employees and physicians of UT Bowld are going to play a pivotal role in that. It has an outstanding reputation as a transplant and chronic disease institute.

Bringing UT Bowld into the Methodist family complements the pediatric transplant program at Le Bonheur Childrens Medical Center, Shorb said.

Our vision for UT Bowld is to build a center of excellence in transplant and chronic disease programs and bring in more patients from all over the world, Shorb said.

Sandra Bailey will assume responsibility as administrator of UT Bowld. Bailey was formerly with Methodist Healthcare as administrator of Methodists hospital in Brownsville, Tenn., and recently returned to lead the UT Bowld evaluation and transition team. Prior to returning to Methodist, Bailey was chief operating officer of Emergency Coverage Cooperation in Knoxville, Tenn.

This is the latest step in Methodists continuing effort to build a stronger relationship with the University of Tennessee and to help build a premier academic medical center in the heart of Memphis. In March, Methodist and the UT Health Science Center announced an affiliation agreement, Shorb said.
