Baker, Donelson, Bearman & Caldwell will host a labor and employment law seminar at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, N.C., from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 19. Registration, due by today, is $75 per person. The seminar will cover topics such as union avoidance strategies and policies; recognizing and preventing harassment; post-Sept. 11 employment law; and strategies for ensuring a drug-free workplace. The Mid-South Conference on Health Care Law, sponsored by the University of Mississippi Center for Continuing Legal Education, convenes at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Adams Mark hotel, 939 Ridge Lake Blvd. Inspector General Janet Rehnquist of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is the speaker. Registration is $225. The course is approved in Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas for continuing legal education credit, including one hour of ethics credit. Courses include the role of pharmaceutical companies in fraud cases and ethical issues in health care law.

 

The Memphis Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators fall mini seminar is 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at the Crescent Club. Attorney Gordon Jackson will discuss Coaches Encourage-Bosses Punish. The ALA board of directors monthly meeting is 5:15 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Davis Kidd Bookstore, 387 Perkins Extended Road.

 

Memphis residents can get account information or make payments for Memphis ad valorem taxes online, at www.cityofmemphis.org, or by phone, 576-7200. Memphis property taxes for 2002 are computed at a rate of 3.2304 per $100 of assessed property value as established by the county assessor. Payment deadline is Sept. 30.
