"Estate Planning for Distributions from Qualified Plans and IRAs," presented by the American Law Institute-American Bar Association is noon to 4 p.m. today in the Memphis Bar Association conference room, One Commerce Square, Suite 1050. This program provides an analysis of the estate planning involved in the distribution from qualified plans and IRAs. In addition to incorporating any developments affecting distributions, the presentation includes examples of how the rules work, alternatives available and the considerations necessary for adopting the "right" alternative for specific clients. The seminar provides 3.67 hours of general continuing legal education credit.
"Designated Topics in Bankruptcy," presented by the Memphis Bar Association Bankruptcy Section is 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at 200 Jefferson Ave., sixth floor. Bankruptcy court Chief Judge David S. Kennedy will give a legislative update; discuss treatment of wholly unsecured, junior home mortgages in the Sixth Circuit as they relate to the Lane case and recent Supreme Court's tax opinion in relation to the Young case. The seminar offers one hour of general continuing legal education credit. The cost is $20 for MBA members and $25 for non-members.
"Tort Law," presented by the Memphis Bar Association is 1:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at the MBA conference room, One Commerce Square, Suite 1050. Speakers include Phil Mischke of Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs, Sadler Bailey of Bailey & Clarke and attorney Tony Deal. The course offers three hours of general continuing legal education credit. Course cost is $85 for MBA members, $95 for non-members or $35 for non-attorneys or those who do not need CLE credit.
