Yvonne Matlock, city-county Health Department director, is speaker at the Tuesday meeting of the Downtown Memphis Rotary Club. The meeting begins at noon at the Cook Convention Center.
Memphis Heritage is hosting the 2002 Architectural Auction April 6, at the Tennessee Brewery, 477 Tennessee Ave. Auction items include cotton classing tables, Elvis teen bedroom floor, vintage stained glass, Central Station luggage carts, Deloche House doors and vintage Memphis photos. The event kicks off at 6 p.m., with the live auction beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets, which include buffet, are $30 for Memphis Heritage members and $40 for non-members.
Free trolley rides are available tonight during the South Main Trolley Art Tour on the last Friday of every month. Among the more than 25 art galleries featured in the South Main District, there will be opening receptions at DEdge Art and Unique Treasures and Mariposa Art Space.
Ballet Memphis is hosting its eighth annual luncheon and silent auction April 12. The auction begins at 10:30 a.m., at the Memphis Botanic Gardens. The luncheon starts at noon. Shops from with Laurelwood Shopping Center also will conduct a fashion show featuring items from Accessories Etc., Bostons, The Colony Shop, James Davis, Joseph, Nicole Miller, R. Narquenta Simms, the director of multicultural and religious affairs for the city, will speak at the Tuesday, Mpact meeting at the Plaza Club, 1 Monroe Plaza. The meeting runs 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is open to the public. For information, call 362-4313.
Midtowns TheatreWorks will host a scene study and acting working conducted by Los Angeles actor Gary Grubbs 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday. The cost is $50 for the class and $10 to audit.
"Take Back the Night" is the theme of the Memphis Sexual Assault Resource Centers upcoming 5K run at 7:30 p.m. April 5. All proceeds will be used to raise awareness of sexual violence within the community. For information, call 272-2020.
Groundbreaking for the Clark Opera Memphis Center, at the corner of Wolf River Parkway and Kirby Road, is 5 p.m. April 18. A reception follows at Beth Sholom Synagogue, across the street. Along with housing a business office, the new center will feature a performance hall, capable of housing sets, singers and 200 audience members.
