Crichton College officially signed the contract Friday to purchase World Overcomers Outreach Ministries Church at 255 N. Highland St. for $3.5 million in a move designed to solidify the colleges growth in Memphis on property it will own. The move to the High Point Terrace neighborhood is beneficial to both the college and the community, said Ronald Schmidt, Crichton president, as the college can expand and advance its mission to educate highly skilled and productive citizens in Christian principals. The move is the first phase of a broader plan to offer a full-service college campus over the next few years. The property on Highland, which was formerly used as an educational facility, has ample classroom space, a 1,700-seat auditorium and more than 100,000 square feet of building space situated on seven acres. This transaction is part of three-way agreement. The World Overcomers Church purchased the Central Church property at 6655 Winchester where Crichton is currently housed.
