A group of thoroughbreds that had no small part in the success of AutoZone Park's inaugural season may be racing towards the winner's circle - for work that includes footage of one of the Mid-South's newest landmarks heading towards the finish line. Memphis-based Running Pony Productions, a full-service video production company and the official video team of the Memphis Redbirds, earned two nominations for Emmy Awards. One of those for a time-lapse video the company produced for the Pacific Coast League champions, showing AutoZone Park's steady rise over more than two years from a hole in the ground to the Downtown gem it is now. The company's work was rewarded by ovations from Mid-Southerners who watched on the ballpark's video screen during Redbirds games. The one-minute video also aired repeatedly on local TV stations. The company also was recognized for producing a segment of the WKNO-TV documentary "Memphis at the Millennium." Running Pony was the only independent production company in Memphis to be nominated for such honors. The Running Pony employees nominated are Gary Blankenship, Perry Cain, Jonathan Epstein, Rod Starns, T. Leigh Starns and Eric Thompson. The Mid-South Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences received 640 entries in 56 categories from television stations and production companies in the region.
