The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded $6.5 million in housing counseling assistance grants to 12 national, regional and multi-state intermediary agencies, including $324,000 to West Tennessee Legal Services Inc. in Jackson, Tenn. WTLS and its affiliates, in conjunction with the MidSouth Project, will provide housing counseling services including pre-purchase counseling to first-time homebuyers; counseling to those 62 years and older on the availability of funds through Home Equity Conversion Mortgage; pre-rental counseling with emphasis upon HUD and rural housing rent subsidy programs; promoting awareness of and education concerning rights and remedies to persons who experience discrimination housing practices; and assisting tenants and homeowners with meeting the responsibilities of tenancy and homeownership.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development unveiled an upgraded version of HUD E-Maps, the agencys environmental mapping site that provides users with more mapping options and greater access capability. With a few mouse clicks at www.hud/gov/emaps, people can find out whether the Environmental Protection Agency is monitoring a site near a home they want to buy, what federal resources are available to redevelop an abandoned factory or if any environmental hazards exist nearby. The updated version can create up to 8,000 maps an hour, provide U.S. Census data for any neighborhood in the nation, enable users to work with multiple maps, and provide for easier entry and linking with other databases.
Terri Townsend of Wesley Housing Corp. of Memphis Inc., 400 S. Highland St., was awarded the Certified Property Manager designation this year conferred by the Institute of Real Management. The CPM designation is awarded to property managers and real estate asset managers who meet IREMs requirements in the areas of experience, education and ethical conduct.
Anita Bunn, Certified Property Manager candidate, of Trammell Crow Co., 6000 Poplar Ave., was awarded the IREM Memphis Chapter 20, chapter of the Institute of Real Estate Managements "CPM Candidate of the Year" award, in recognition of her contribution to the real estate management profession and the local community. Bunn was the first Memphis recipient to receive this award in 1999.
