Calendar of events: June 5 11 Calendar of events: Oct. 16-Oct. 22 Oct. 16 The Memphis Bar Association will present "Advance Mediation Training" from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the MBA Conference Center, One Commerce Square, Suite 1050. Alexander Polsky, principal and founder of JAMS, will be the principal trainer. The cost is $200 for MBA members and $250 for non-MBA members. Oct. 17 Memphis City Council meets at 3:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers, first floor, City Hall, 125 N. Main St. Items on the agenda include the second reading of an ordinance to raise the hotel/motel occupancy tax in the city and the second reading of an ordinance prohibiting open containers and the consumption of alcoholic beverages in certain places. Oct. 18 The Building Owners and Managers Association, Memphis, lunch meeting begins at noon at the Crescent Club in the Crescent Center. Tom Word with Memphis Light, Gas and Water will discuss energy solutions. Cost is $20 payable at the door. Calvary and the Arts concert series continues with Di Anne Price and Her Boyfriends at 12:05 p.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church, 102 N. Second St. Lunch is $5 and will be catered by Hueys. Oct. 21 Race for the Cure begins at the Shops of Saddle Creek-North. The womens 5K run begins at 8 a.m., with a one-mile family fun run starting at 8:20 a.m. Shuttles will run from various locations to alleviate traffic congestion around the race site. Entry fee is $20. Entry fee for children under 10 is $5. Entry forms are available at various locations or through www.memphisraceforthecure.com. There is no race day registration. Proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. For information, call the Race for the Cure office, 624-9005. Oct. 28 Temple Israel Brotherhoods "Taste of New York" auction and extravaganza begins at 7 p.m. at Temple Israel, 1376 E. Massey Road.
