John V. White Jr. has been appointed chairman, president and chief executive officer of Union Planters Bank. White joins Union Planters from National City Bank, where he served as executive vice president of retail banking for the state of Indiana. A native of Grosse Pointe, Mich., White received his bachelors degree and masters of business administration from the University of Michigan.
Ron Filbert has been named vice president and general manager of the Mall of Memphis. Prior to joining American Mall Properties LLC, which owns the mall, Filbert was general manager of the Oak Court Mall. With more than 40 years experience in the mall and retail industry, Filberts previous positions include vice president and general manager of Lowensteins Department Stores and general manager of Raleigh Springs Mall.
The Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce has promoted three staff members:
Della Adams has been promoted to business information manager. Prior to her promotion, Adams served more than three years in The Chambers research department. Larry Henson has been promoted to vice president of research and information services. Henson has been with The Chamber for 10 years, and, prior to his promotion, was research director. He holds a masters degree in geography. Allen Hester has been promoted to senior vice president of marketing and communications. Hester, who has been with The Chamber for eight years, holds a masters degree in communications. Prior to his promotion, Hester was vice president of communications.
Archer/Malmo has promoted three employees:
Mary Caywood has been named president of Archer/Malmo Direct. She has been with the firm since 1993, when she joined the company as vice president. She is a graduate of Rhodes College, and received her MBA in marketing from The University of Memphis. Cynthia Ham has been named president of Archer/Malmo Public Relations. Prior to joining the firm in 1997, Ham was executive director of the Memphis in May International Festival. She graduated from the University of Memphis with a bachelors degree in journalism/advertising/public relations. Gary W. Lendermon has been named president of Archer/Malmo Co-op. Lendermon joined the firm in 1993 as vice president, and is a graduate of the University of Memphis.
Freds Inc. has added three members to its management team:
Jerry Shore has been named executive vice president and chief financial officer. Prior to joining the company, Shore was chief financial officer of Wangs International Inc. He is a graduate of Western Michigan University, where he earned a bachelors degree in accounting. William M. Duff has joined the company as director of tax. Prior to joining the company, Duff was tax manager for PricewaterhouseCoopers. He is a graduate of Harding University. Anita G. Ryan has joined Freds as treasurer. Prior to joining the company, Ryan was director of treasury services for Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. She is a graduate of the University of Memphis.
