April 4 The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Developments Occupational Safety and Health Division will host a seminar on occupational noise and hearing conservation for area employers from 8 a.m. to noon at the Holiday Inn Select Downtown, 160 Union Ave. The cost of the program is $75. For registration information, call (615) 320-4962. ``Maximizing Your IRA Opportunities, sponsored by the First Tennessee Retirement Resource Center, begins at 6 p.m. at First Tennessees Oak Court Center, 4385 Poplar Ave., next to Oak Court Mall. April 5 The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art will host a "Big Beer Tasting and Gallery Tour" from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The cost is $10 per person, and participants must be age 21 or older. For reservations, call 544-6225. The Job Placement Office of Shelby State Community College and State Technical Institute is sponsoring a community jobs fair from 9 a.m. to noon. The event is free, and will take place at Shelby States Midtown Campus at 737 Union Ave. in the Vertie Sails Arena. April 6 ``Planning for a Lump-sum Distribution, sponsored by the First Tennessee Retirement Resource Center, begins at 6 p.m. at First Tennessees Oak Court Center, 4385 Poplar Ave., next to Oak Court Mall. April 7 The University of Memphis will host the 2000 Mid-South Planning and Zoning Institute, an annual workshop for planning commisioners, elected officials, professional planners and interested citizens, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fogelman Executive Center. To register, call 678-2161. April 8 The University of Memphis will host Tennessee Law School Day from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. In addition to U of M, participating schools include the University of Tennessee College of Law and Vanderbilt Law School. The event is free, but reservations must be made by April 3. To register, call 678-2528. The DeSoto Council will host its 8th annual "Salute to Industry" golf tournament at North Creek Golf Club in Southaven. Tee times are available for morning and afternoon rounds. This years prizes include a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and $5,000. The format is four-man scramble and the cost per player is $75. To register, call (662) 429-4414. Telescopes will be set up on the lawn at the Sharpe Planetarium from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. for an evening of "Observing on the Lawn." Admission is free and participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, picnics, binoculars and telescopes.
