The Redevelopment Plan Workshop begins at 6 p.m. Thursday at One Commerce Square/NBC Auditorium. EnSafe Inc. of Memphis received the Grand Award for Engineering Excellence from the Consulting Engineers of Tennessee during the annual statewide Engineering Excellence Awards competition. EnSafe was recognized for a project executed on behalf of the U.S. Navy. In addition, a Merit Award Certificate was presented to PDR Engineers Inc. for taxiway rehabilitation at the Memphis International Airport.
Unemployment benefits are taxable income according to federal law. The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development issued 1099-G forms to all those who received unemployment benefits in 1999. Anyone who received benefits in 1999 and has not received a 1099-G form should send a fax to (615) 253-4649 and request a copy.

Fred's Inc. reported sales for the four-week period ended Feb. 26. The companys total sales for February rose 13 percent to $54.2 million compared with $48 million in the year-earlier period. On a comparable store basis, February sales increased 7.1 percent from the same period last year. Fred's operates 320 discount general merchandise stores, including 26 franchised Fred's Stores, in the southeastern U.S.
