Home builders association elects 1999 volunteer leadership team Home builders association elects 1999 volunteer leadership team By DAVID REEL Special to The Daily News David Gribble of Boyle Investment Co. has been elected to serve as 1999 president of the Memphis Area Home Builders Association. Prior to his election as MAHBA president, Gribble served the association as a member of the Executive Committee, Board of Directors and Builder Issues Committee; as chair of the Membership, Registered Builder and Program committees; as co-chair of the Developers Council; and as a director to the Home Builders Association of Tennessee and the National Association of Home Builders. In 1997, Gribble received a Presidential Award for his contributions to the association and the industry. Ken Garland Jr. of The Ken Garland Co. has been elected first vice president. Garland has been a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive, Young Builders and Registered Builder committees; chair of the Building and Grounds Committee; and director to the Home Builders Association of Tennessee and the National Association of Home Builders. He has been a builder in the annual Vesta Home Show and received a Presidential Award in 1997 for his contributions to the association and the industry. Under Garlands direction, the association recently completed a major renovation to its center on Germantown Parkway in Cordova. Garland will chair the Registered Builder Committee in 1999. David Parsons of David Parsons Construction Co. will serve as second vice president. Parsons has been a member of the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Registered Building Committee and Membership Committee; chair of the Builder Issues Committee; and director to the Home Builders Association of Tennessee and the National Association of Home Builders. He has been a builder in the annual Vesta Home Show and received a Presidential Award in 1996 for his contributions to the association and the industry. He will chair the Vesta Show Committee in 1999. Phil Chamberlain of Chamberlain and McCreery has been elected secretary-treasurer. Chamberlain has served on the board of directors and Registered Builder Committee and as co-chair of the Builder Issues Committee. He has been a Vesta builder, was Builder of the Year in 1995 and received a Presidential Award in 1994 for his contributions to the association and industry. He will chair the Membership Committee in 1999. Gribble succeeds 1997 MAHBA president Palmer Albertine of The Albertine Co. Albertine will continue to serve on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors as immediate past president and as chair of the Past Presidents Council. During Albertines tenure, the association achieved a range of goals including: Launching a series of Builders Best Practices seminars designed to help members learn about the latest trends and changes in the industry. Speaking at a series of Realtor outreach meetings to strengthen the working relationship between builders and Realtors and to orient Realtors on the advantages of selling homes built by a registered builder. Establishing an HBA Web site at www.mahba.com. Establishing a Registered Remodeler Council and developing guidelines for membership and consumer complaints. Sponsoring a Vesta Home Show that attracted a record attendance of 29,000. Sponsoring a Home Expo with all booths sold. Hosting a series of briefings and meetings with key government officials on issues of concern to the industry. Participating in a successful statewide grassroots lobbying effort with the Home Builders Association of Tennessee to defeat an industry-threatening electricians licensing bill. Joining the newly elected officers are the following Registered Builder members of the association who have been elected as members of the 1999 Board of Directors: Ron Belz of Belz Enterprises, Lee Baum of Baum and Co., Jim Chambers of Chambers and Chambers Builders, John Duke of John Duke Builders, Tom Moss of Moss Construction, Billy Perry of Stonybrook Homes, Ron Sklar of Sklar Development, Mark Snyder of Snyder Home Builders, Chip Tayloe of Tayloe Construction Co., Eric Tucker of Inglewood Homes and Bruce Upchurch of Bruce Upchurch Homes. Also serving on the 1999 board will be the following associate members who serve by virtue of their positions as elected leaders of the associations Associate Council: Jimmy Skaggs of Lone Star Industries, Mark Miesse of Mark Miesse and Associates and Joe Maas of Acme Brick, Tile and More. Ex-officio members of the board include the following individuals who chair councils and committees that are affiliated with the Home Builders Association: Roy Moore of Tesco Properties, Memphis Apartment Association; Bob Turner of Southern Properties, Sales and Marketing Council; Clark Williamson of Delta Faucet, Home Expo Committee; Rob Carr of River City Builders, Registered Remodeler Council; and Jeff Hirsch of Great American Homes, Young Builders Committee. Reel is executive director of the Memphis Area Home Builders Association.
