Construction began June 8 on a classroom addition project at St. Georges Day School in Germantown.
The classroom will be used for pre-kindergarten students, said Chris Norris, director of development.
St. Georges is an independent school that operates on the property of St. Georges Episcopal Church at 8250 Poplar Ave.
Norris said school officials decided to build a new classroom because the church needs the space the preschoolers have been using.
The project also includes building a courtyard area and a covered walkway.
Hecht Construction is the general contractor on the project, and the architect is Askew, Nixon & Ferguson.
Bill Hecht, president of Hecht Construction, said the classroom addition contains 1,500 square feet and the walkway contains 1,000 square feet.
The classroom will have a brick veneer exterior with a conventional foundation,
Hecht said the project is scheduled for completion in late September or early October.
