Home builders association Home builders association honors seven members The Memphis Area Home Builders Association recently honored seven members for outstanding contributions to the association and industry in 1997. Ron Belz of Belz Enterprises was named 1997 Builder of the Year. He served on the board of directors, as co-chair of the Developers Council and as a member of the Political Action Committee, Paving Standards Task Force, Grays Creek Sewer Task Force, City Engineer Plans Review Task Force and Middle Income Housing Task Force. Mark Miesse of Mark Miesse and Associates was named 1997 Associate of the Year. Miesse chaired the Sales and Marketing Council and served as a member of the board of directors and the Associates Council. Under his chairmanship, the Sales and Marketing Council initiated efforts to create a HBA Web site, conducted educational seminars and worked to launch a new home directory. Presidential Awards were presented to Ken Garland of the Ken Garland Cos., W. Jerry Gillis of FaxonGillis Homes and David Gribble of Boyle Investment. Garland served as secretary-treasurer, chair of the Building and Grounds Committee and as a member of the Young Builders, Investment and Registered Builder committees. He also was a builder in the 1997 Vesta Home Show. Under Garlands direction, the association initiated and completed a renovation to the HBA center on Germantown Parkway. Gillis, a past president of the association, served as past presidential adviser to 1997 president Charles Morgan. He also was instrumental in changing the name of the association and sponsoring a public relations campaign designed to promote the Registered Builder program and promote the sale of new homes. Gribble served as second vice president, chair of the Membership Committee, Co-chair of the Developers Council and as a member of the Builder Issues Committee, Paving Standards Task Force, Grays Creek Sewer Task Force, City Engineer Plans Review Task Force and Middle Income Housing Task Force. John Russell of Thompson and Russell Builders was honored as 1997 Builder Big Spike for recruiting 20 new members to the association. Monroe Pointer of Pointer Insurance Agency was honored as 1997 Associate Big Spike for recruiting 16 new members to the association.
