U of M to host sports law conference
U of M to host sports law conference
Economists and law professors will discuss professional sports and antitrust law on Saturday during a conference hosted by the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law.
Meeting at the Fogelman Executive Center, the conference will deal with topics such as baseballs antitrust exemption and labor issues in professional sports, said law school dean Donald J. Polden.
The technical conference will be aimed at lawyers, sports agents, sports business executives and academics.
The conference was organized by professor Amanda K. Esquibel of the U of M law school and Roger D. Blair of the University of Floridas department of economics.
Speakers, in addition to Blair and Esquibel, will be economists Walter Adams of Michigan State University, James Brock of Miami University-Ohio, Jill H.B. Herndon of Hamline University and Richard Romano of the University of Florida.
Law professors on the program will be Jeffrey Harrison of the University of Florida, John Lopatka of the University of South Carolina, Gary Roberts of Tulane University and Stephen Ross of the University of Illinois.
Also on the panel will be Kenneth M. Lehn of the University of Pittsburghs Katz Graduate School of Business and Michael E. Ross of the Atlanta law firm of King and Spalding.
Registration for the conference will be $150 and will cover the cost of continuing education credits for lawyers. For more information, call 678-2421.
