Lucian T Lucian T. Pera, a partner in the firm of Armstrong, Allen, Prewitt, Gentry, Johnston and Holmes, has been appointed chair of the American Bar Association Board of Governors finance committee. Pera, 36, is the first Young Lawyer Member-at-Large to chair a major ABA board committee. Pera also will serve on the boards executive committee. As chair of the finance committee, Pera will be responsible for the financial management of the associations resources. The committee has oversight responsibility over an annual budget of more than $115 million. Pera has served on the ABA Board of Governors as the Young Lawyer Member-at-Large since 1994. In the ABA, Pera also is a member of the House of Delegates, the associations policy-making body, and is a leader in the Young Lawyers Division. He also has represented the Tennessee Bar Association in the ABA House of Delegates. Newton P. Allen of Dann, Allen and Murrell was elected vice chair of the Senior Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association at the associations annual meeting on Aug. 2. He previously was a member of the council of the Senior Lawyers Division. He has been active in the division since 1990; is a member of the editorial board of Experience, the divisions quarterly magazine; is a former chair of the publication committee; and is the immediate past chair of the travel and leisure committee. After practicing for 47 years with Armstrong, Allen, Prewitt, Gentry, Johnston and Holmes and its predecessor firms, he retired Dec. 31, 1995, and formed the firm of Dann, Allen and Murrell with Alexander W. Dann Jr. and Richard Murrell on Jan. 1. L. Derek Renfroe has been elected director of the National Bar Associations Region II, which includes Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee, for 1996-1997. As director, he will serve as a member of the NBA Board of Governors. The Memphis Bar Association will sponsor a seminar on jury selection and voir dire on Sept. 6 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at One Commerce Square.
