The sale of homes listed in the Multiple Listing Service increased 7
The sale of homes listed in the Multiple Listing Service increased 7.5 percent in July, totaling 1,073 as compared to the June total of 998, according to the Memphis Area Association of Realtors. July sales represent a 10.4 percent increase over the 972 home sales in July 1995. As of July 31, year-to-date sales totaled 6,588, 7.7 percent ahead of the same period last year, when 6,117 MLS-listed homes had been sold. The inventory of homes for sale totaled 5,938, down from 5,990 in June but up from 5,778 in July 1995. The median sale price of MLS-listed homes sold in July was $94,000 compared to $99,500 in June and $88,000 in July 1995.
The Appraisal Institute will sponsor seminars on Friday and Saturday titled "Dynamics of Office Building Valuation" and "Special Purpose Properties: The Challenge of Real Estate Appraising in Limited Markets," respectively. The instructor will be John Underwood, president of Appraisal & Acquisition Consultants Inc. The seminars will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Memphis Area Association of Realtors. The Memphis Apartment Guide Monthly marks its 100th edition in August. Published by Guinn Communications, the magazine features rental information on apartments in Memphis and north Mississippi. The free publication is available in vending boxes and at retail locations. The company also publishes apartment guides in Nashville and Little Rock.
Seabrooks retail store at 2200 N. Germantown Parkway in Cordova will host a free wallpaper hanging clinic on Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon. The clinic will be taught by Robert Bridges and is open to the public. For more information, call 377-7762.
