05-07 Real briefs The principals of Looney Ricks Kiss Architects Inc. have been selected to receive the 1996 Outstanding Alumni Award from the University of Memphis Herff College of Engineering alumni chapter. J. Carson Looney (B.S. 1979), H. Frank Ricks Jr. (B.S. 1977) and Richard D. Kiss (B.S. 1970) will be honored at the chapters annual awards dinner on May 16. The firm has won numerous local, state and national awards, including three design awards in 1994 in Professional Builder magazines "Best In America Living" national design competition and five of seven annual awards from the Tennessee chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers last year. The firm devotes its expertise to different markets, including hotel construction in Mexico and Puerto Rico and an 8,000-acre Disney Co. development near Orlando, Fla. It is also creating apartment complexes for the nations second largest apartment developer. The Appraisal Institute will present an industrial valuation seminar on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Memphis Area Association of Realtors, 6393 Poplar Ave. The instructor is Norman R. Benedict, chairman of the national body of knowledge committee of the Appraisal Institute. Topics include types of industrial real estate properties, appraisal considerations and industrial site selection factors. Full attendance at the seminar qualifies designated members for seven hours continuing education credit. The cost is $175 for Appraisal Institute members, associates and affiliates and $200 for nonmembers. For information, call 685-2100. At their April board meeting, the members of the Mid-South Relocation Council voted to donate $500 each to the Kosair Childrens Hospital and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The board selected the charities based on their work with children and their national coverage. Judy Whitsitt, a lifetime member of the multi-million dollar club at Crye-Leike Realtors, has earned her Certified Builder Specialist designation.
