Koskiniemi joined the company in 1986 as an area representative in the coatings and plastic division and later served as laboratory manager and product development manager. He has a bachelors degree in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware. Gary Scruggs, chief transportation engineer at Pickering Inc., has been named the companys newest principal owner. He has been with Pickering since 1980. He has a bachelors degree in civil engineering and a masters degree specializing in transportation from the University of Memphis. Pickering Firm Inc. has also announced the following new employees: Michael J. Walker has joined the firm as a project architect. Walker has more than 10 years experience in project design for medical, educational and industrial projects. He has a masters of architecture degree from Clemson University. Clete Blankenship has joined Pickering as a civil engineer. He has a bachelors degree in civil engineering from the University of Memphis and also bachelors degrees in biology and chemistry from the University of Alabama. J. Adam Mahoney has joined the firm as a civil engineer. He has a bachelors degree in civil engineering from the University of Memphis. Martha T. DeLuca has joined Pickering as an administrative assistant. She has more than 15 years experience and has been a certified professional secretary since 1989. Uttam Shah has joined the firm as an intern architect. He has a bachelors degree in architectural technology and management from the New York Institute of Technology. Paul Latture was promoted from associate manager of membership services to director of membership services. Minor Perkins will become the president of RFS Hotel Investors Inc. effective April 8. Robert M. Solmson, who previously served as president, will continue as chairman and chief executive officer. Perkins joins RFSI from Morgan Keegan & Co. Inc., where he was managing director and co-director of its investment banking department. Steve Porter has been promoted to the newly created position of vice president of operations for Promus Hotel Corp.s 78 owned and managed Embassy Suites hotels. He formerly was vice president of marketing for Embassy Suites. Porter has a bachelor of science from Miami University and a masters of business administration from Xavier University. G. Gregory Voehringer has been appointed associate counsel, Arkansas-Tennessee, for First American Title Insurance Co. Voehringer received his bachelors and law degrees from the University of Memphis. He formerly was in private practice with Huggins and Associates and Crislip, Phillip and Associates. Dr. Ronnie Priest has been named the 1996 recipient of the University of Memphis Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Award. Priest is an assistant professor in the counseling, educational psychology and research department. He has a doctorate in education from the University of Alabama and is coordinator of graduate programs for the universitys community agency counseling program. Karl Birkholz is the chairman of the Memphis Food Banks 1996 board of directors. He retired from FedEx and is currently consulting for Freds Inc. Vice chairman is community volunteer Olivia Bruce; treasurer is Phil Shannon, a partner at KPMG Peat Marwick; and secretary is James McWillie, a retired businessman and former board chairman of Memphis Light, Gas & Water. Summitt, dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Tennessee-Memphis, has been named the 1996 Pediatrician of the Year by the Tennessee chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Tennessee Pediatric Society.
