01/16 backfill Realtors install 1996 officers, honor members The Memphis Area Association of Realtors awarded its highest honors and ushered in its new board of directors during its annual banquet at the Germantown Performing Arts Centre. MAAR inducted L. A. Westley, owner and principal broker of Westley & Associates, as its 1996 president. The organization named Betty L. Smith, principal broker of East Memphis Realty, as its 1995 Realtor of the Year. The award is the highest honor available from the 2,800-member professional association. Smith was MAAR president in 1993 and serves on the Tennessee Real Estate Commission. Joel Fulmer IV, vice president of Boyle Investment Co., and Joe Kirkland, attorney with the Williams, McDaniel & Wolfe firm, were named Realtor-Associate of the Year and Affiliate of the Year, respectively. The awards, established in 1952, recognize association leaders for outstanding service to the real estate industry, the community and MAAR. The organization installed its 1996 officers which include president L. A. Westley, owner and principal broker of Westley & Associates; first vice president Fontaine Taylor, president and principal broker of Coleman Etter Fontaine, Realtors; second vice president Lawrence Johnson, owner and principal broker of Lawrence Johnson Realtors; secretary-treasurer Rosemarie Fair Stack, owner and principal broker of One Source Commercial Inc. and president-designate Tom Kimbrough, managing broker at Crye-Leike Inc., Realtors. MAAR board directors include Doug Collins of Prudential Pride Properties; Meg Escue of Marx & Bensdorf; Ruth Gardner of River Oaks Inc., Realtors; Bill Irby of the Hobson Co., Realtors; Robert Morris of Crye-Leike Inc.; Nancy Robinson of Coleman Etter Fontaine, Realtors; Edward Sharp of McWaters & Associates; and Steve Woodyard of RFS Realty Corp. MAAR 1995 president Bobbi S. Gillis gave her presidential awards for special service to Linda Sowell of Sowell & Co., Realtors and William Mitchell of Crye-Leike Inc., Realtors.
