When a group of Memphis religious leaders marched from St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral to City Hall the day after Dr. Martin Luther King’s assassination in 1968, they were in the middle of a pivotal year for an ecumenical movement whose impact is still being felt.

2004: Open house for the new FedExForum, the new $250 million arena south of the Beale Street entertainment district.

1981: Ozzy Osbourne at the Orpheum with Def Leppard opening the show. Osbourne was touring with a band that featured guitarist Randy Rhoades who would die less than a year later in a plane crash. The Memphis show finished abruptly when Osbourne had to stop performing because of a broken rib he sustained earlier on the tour after falling off stage.

The MIFA Store, a thrift shop inside the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association headquarters at 910 Vance Ave., is closing.

Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association is offering several ways to give back to the community this holiday season.

In conjunction with a special Christmas Day meals delivery, volunteers will deliver gift bags to 1,000 homebound senior meals clients. Those who would like to donate gifts should deliver them by Dec. 10 to MIFA, 910 Vance Ave.

The campaign of Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards learned about crime as well as poverty in Memphis Monday during a stop of Edwards' "Road To One America Tour." The tour is supposed to call attention to Americans living in poverty.

52. MIFA's Teen Job Program Celebrates 25 Years -

Forty 15-year-olds will be taking a step next week that will ensure they're kept busy and out of trouble this summer. It also will put them on the path to obtaining college educations - and what they and the people closest to them hope will be successful adult careers.
