3. Kroger Brings Online Ordering to More Memphis-Area Locations -

Kroger suspected there was plenty of demand in the Memphis market for the online ordering system the grocery chain has been rolling out in recent weeks.

When the company brought ClickList to the first Memphis-area store last month, Kroger executives saw firsthand. They don’t have exact numbers to share, but Kroger confirmed that the launch of its ClickList online system at the first area Kroger – in Germantown at 7735 Farmington Blvd. – generated the most opening week orders for any store in the entire chain.

All of a sudden, it seems, Kroger has transformed itself from a traditional grocery retailer to a tech-savvy brand that’s comfortable on the cutting edge.

At the chain’s corporate office in Memphis on a recent afternoon, Jeff Evans, e-commerce manager for the Kroger Delta Division, was showing one shopper some of the bells and whistles Kroger put inside its mobile shopping app. One hassle, the shopper mused aloud, is that she makes her grocery list but then has to run back and forth across the store once she get there, since the list never seems to line up in order with the store layout.

Kroger reached an agreement with Corky’s to serve select items, including ribs, pork shoulder and chicken prepared onsite, at the new store at 7735 Farmington Blvd., which is set to open Aug. 12. Corky’s beans, potato salad, cole slaw and banana pudding also will be available.

Five warranty deeds totaling about $30.5 million, two quitclaim deeds and several lease assignments have been filed in conjunction with The Kroger Co.’s buyout of nine Memphis-area Schnucks stores. The deeds all are dated Sept. 12.
