3. Despite Slight Uptick, March Numbers Show Struggling Market -

Shelby County’s commercial real estate market is doing what it can to hold steady amid a crumbled economy.

March saw 53 CRE sales, a 4 percent increase from 51 sales in March 2009 and 61 percent increase from 33 in February, according to the latest information from real estate information company Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com.

A&P Hotel Funding LLC has sold the La Quinta Inns & Suites at 6068 Macon Cove for $1.8 million to Harsha Patel. The sale closed March 4.

The economy hasn’t extinguished commercial real estate deals, but it certainly has changed the way they get done.

Shane McElveen learned about the tedious process of property acquisition when he looked into buying the High Point Funeral Chapel at 3788 Summer Ave. in the Berclair area. McElveen, who had worked at the chapel as senior vice president, was trying to buy the business from owner G. David Keller.

8. Quality Inn Sells On Courthouse Steps -

The Quality Inn motel at 6068 Macon Cove near Bartlett sold July 31 for $1.4 million in a substitute trustee’s deed. Multiple bidders attempted to buy the 129-room hotel, but A&P Hotel Funding LLC, a local entity related to a Dallas-based company, made the winning offer on the steps of the Shelby County Courthouse.

9. Quality Inn Owner Faces Foreclosure -

A foreclosure notice for property owned by Lalji Hotels LLC has been filed and appears on Page 33 of today’s paper. The property at 6068 Macon Cove is currently a Quality Inn. The original loan, taken out in 2003, was for $1.8 million and the lender was General Electric Capital Corp.
