A Germantown-based rental-home company has purchased seven houses near the University of Memphis for $617,000.

Blue & White Properties bought the homes at 572, 582 and 588 Watson St., 590 Loeb St., 737 Shotwell St., 705 S. Graham St. and 3739 Spottswood Ave. from Collegiate Properties LLC, according to a March 31 warranty deed.

4. Gen X Inks State’s First Location on Austin Peay -

A trendy Vernon, Calif.-based retailer has inked its first Tennessee location in Austin Peay Plaza.

Gen X Clothing Inc. signed a 35,000-square-foot lease at 3252 Austin Peay Highway. The space was formerly occupied by Big Lots.

5. J.C. Penney Gets Rid of Hundreds of Sales -

NEW YORK (AP) – J.C. Penney is permanently marking down all of its merchandise by at least 40 percent so shoppers no longer have to wait for sales to get bargains.

Penney said Wednesday that it is getting rid of the hundreds of sales it offers each year in favor of a simpler approach to pricing. Starting on Feb. 1, the retailer is rolling out an "Every Day" pricing strategy with much fewer sales throughout the year.
