The three sites will remain open through July 11 when the early voting period ends for the referendum elections on creating municipal school districts in each of the six suburban towns and cities.

Early voting in advance of the July 16 election day referendums on forming suburban school districts topped 1,500 through its first weekend.

A total of 1,530 citizens voted early through Saturday, June 29, with a strong showing Saturday at the three suburban locations that opened that day for the voting period that ends July 11.

10. Q2 Home Sales Sizzle -

Defying analysts' predictions of a slowing residential real estate market in 2006, home sales still are increasing throughout Shelby County, particularly in the eastern suburbs.

The total number of home sales in the Memphis market rose 1.8 percent in the second quarter to 6,826, up from 6,703 sales recorded during the same period of 2005, according to Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com.

11. Construction Activity Remains Strong -

There's a phrase the British use that's also appropriate in Memphis and Shelby County, where it applies both to the furious pace of home construction and the amount of new development across the region.

2003 was a historic year for residential real estate. 2004 matched that pace, setting an all-time high for home sales in the Memphis market. And most recently, second quarter 2005 numbers outpaced the same period of 2004 by a wide margin.
