He wasted no time getting his first victory as the Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-4 on Sunday before the start of the MLB All-Star Break.

6. Loan Demand Down as Company Owners Turn to Personal Funds -

Fewer small employers sought loans and other financing toward the end of last year as many companies dealt with fiscal challenges.

That's the finding of a survey of more than 8,100 companies released last week by the 12 regional Federal Reserve Banks. The survey showed that demand for financing fell, with 40 percent of companies seeking funding, down from 45 percent a year earlier.

14. Survey: CRE Experts Concerned About Interest Rates -

Rising interest rates in 2018 are the primary concern for the commercial real estate industry, according to a recent report by Chicago-based international law firm Seyfarth Shaw.

In its third annual Real Estate Market Sentiment Survey, which polls an array of commercial real estate executives from around the county, 82 percent of respondents said they expect multiple interest rate increases in 2018.

Former Memphis Tiger Antonio Anderson hasn’t been shy about voicing his concerns over the current state of the men’s basketball program under coach Tubby Smith. But after the Tigers dropped their third straight game on Sunday, Feb. 11, a 68-64 loss to UCF at FedExForum, Smith was asked directly about Anderson’s recent comment that he might not be the right man for the job.

About a month ago, following a Dec. 10 loss at Arizona, Marcus Mariota showed a seldom-seen side of his personality.

Clearly dejected, he seemed flustered and distraught while answering questions in his post-game press conference, even answering that he was “pissed off” about his performance when asked why he seemed more bothered than usual following the Titans’ 12-7 loss to the struggling Cardinals.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The U.S. trade deficit declined sharply in February as imports from China fell by a record amount and American exports rose for a third straight month.

The deficit fell to $43.6 billion in February, 9.6 percent below January's deficit of $48.2 billion, the Commerce Department reported Tuesday. Exports rose a tiny 0.2 percent to $192.9 billion. Imports dropped 1.8 percent to $236.4 billion as the flow of Chinese goods tumbled by $8.6 billion, led by a big drop in cell phone imports.

DALLAS (AP) — Southwest Airlines Co. earned a record fourth-quarter profit of $536 million as fuel costs fell by nearly one-third and offset lower fares and rising labor costs.

58. ‘Complete Gut’ Planned for Dermon Building in Downtown Memphis -

The historic Dermon Building at the northeast corner of Third Street and Court Avenue will be turned into a boutique hotel following a recent purchase.

The 46 N. Third St. structure, which was built in 1925, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places due to its art deco and Renaissance-styled architecture. Real estate and bail bonding firms have occupied the lower levels, but the 10-story building has sat completely vacant for a few years and substantially vacant for well over 10 years.

The Vols (8-4) board a flight Saturday morning to Tampa, Fla., where they will spend almost a week before the Jan. 1 Outback Bowl against Northwestern (10-2).

As this is being written, the University of Memphis coaching search is a game of wait and see. Athletic director Tom Bowen & Co. apparently remain fixed on Missouri defensive coordinator Barry Odom, who served in the same position for three seasons at Memphis before going to Missouri before the 2015 season.

66. Memphis Council to Consider Graceland Plaza Development -

Memphis City Council members vote Tuesday, Nov. 17, on Elvis Presley Enterprises’ plan to redevelop Graceland Plaza into an entertainment complex.

The 46-acre complex, located on the west side of Elvis Presley Boulevard, will include two restaurants, a soundstage, new retail development and two new museums, including a car museum.

67. No. 25 Memphis Stunned in Closing Minutes by No. 16 Houston -

HOUSTON (AP) — After scoring to start the fourth quarter, No. 25 Memphis was up by 20 and looked well on its way to a big win over undefeated Houston.

The Tigers were left stunned less than 15 minutes later.

68. Empty Bowls Project Uses Art to Feed City -

Hunger and homelessness are problems plaguing the Mid-South, and the Memphis Empty Bowls Project hopes to play its small part in addressing the larger issue.

On Sunday, Nov. 8, art in the form of handcrafted bowls and a sampling of soups from several Memphis restaurants will be the centerpiece of an effort to raise money to feed area children in need. The event is slated for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Church Health Center Wellness, 1115 Union Ave.

It’s been a long week for Tennessee football coach Butch Jones.
