8. Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Installed in Garages -

The Downtown Memphis Commission, through its Downtown Parking Authority, is now offering 12 electric vehicle charging stations for public use in six parking garages.

The equipment and installation costs were funded by San Francisco-based ECOtality, a company that develops environmentally friendly energy systems, and its partner company Blink Network. The Blink Network offers its members discounted access to electric vehicle charging stations throughout the country.

A pair of local firms has partnered to design the $25 million expansion of the FedEx Air Operations Training Center that’s under way at 3851 Airways Blvd. – a project that will double the size of the Memphis simulator training facility.

Memphis International Airport officials have insurance and are talking to the state of Tennessee about paying perhaps as much as 90 percent of the cost from damages to General DeWitt Spain Airport in Frayser.

Air Transport International is resuming cargo service at Memphis International Airport in May.

The carrier will fly 727s into the airport between Charlotte, N.C., and Memphis five times a week, said Richard White, vice president of properties and business development for Memphis International Airport.
