2. Railgarten’s Case Delayed; Will Go Before City Council -

After a more than four-hour meeting, the Shelby County Board of Adjustment voted Wednesday, April 26, to delay Railgarten’s request to reopen portions of its multiparcel Midtown outdoor entertainment venue, leaving only 2158 Central Ave. and the bottom floor of 2166 Central Ave. open for business.

3. 2 Midtown Restaurants Seek to Incorporate Shipping Containers -

The Broad Avenue Arts District has long been innovative when it comes to the creative reuse of formerly blighted properties, and its newest addition seeks to continue this trend.

The owners of City & State on Broad Avenue filed paperwork with the city of Memphis requesting approval to convert an abandoned liquor store into a diner – fittingly named The Liquor Store – that will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

4. New Midtown Ping-Pong Bar Applies For Beer Permit -

Railgarten, a new Midtown bar hoping to help bridge the gap between Overton Square and Cooper-Young, has applied for an on-premise beer license with the City of Memphis Alcohol Commission.

2166 Central LLC, doing business as Railgarten Diner, was listed as the applicant for the permit.

5. Historically Hip -

There will be meandering crowds, hand-made art, funky tunes, political campaigning, locally sourced foods and a fireworks display.

More than 400 vendor booths are slated to celebrate this year’s 25th anniversary of the Cooper Young Festival on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the corner of Cooper Street and Young Avenue.
