10. Sweet Noshings Store Fulfills Asbridge’s Business Dream -

Leena Asbridge has about two weeks left in her current work as a bank field examiner before she starts a new, sweeter chapter in her professional career.

She’s in the midst of preparing to open Sweet Noshings, the candy store that will occupy 1,750 square feet at 2113 Madison Ave. in Overton Square.

11. Children’s Heart Foundation Given $15,000 for Relocation -

The International Children’s Heart Foundation was awarded a $15,000 commercial office grant Wednesday, Nov. 14, by the Center City Development Corp. to move its offices from 1750 Madison Ave., suite 500, to Downtown’s Brinkley Plaza, 80 Monroe Ave., suite G-1.

12. Safe Haven -

Victims of domestic violence in need of help will now find navigating the system much easier, thanks to the new Family Safety Center of Memphis and Shelby County.

The 10,000-square-foot center combines civil, criminal, health and social services all under one roof, taking up the entire sixth floor of the Madison Professional Building at 1750 Madison Ave. in the heart of Midtown.

13. Catholic Charities Promotes Sophia’s House -

Incidents of domestic violence historically have increased around the holiday season – thought to be the result of family and monetary pressures and increased alcohol consumption that can serve as catalysts in already volatile domestic situations.

14. The Next Link -

The next front in the city’s greenline movement is along the floodwalls of Chelsea Avenue in North Memphis.

Greater Memphis Greenline Inc. plans to develop a 2.5-mile section of an old railway into the Chelsea Avenue Greenline, a multiuse trail that will connect Overton Park with Uptown.

15. Long-Sought Family Safety Center Moves Forward -

After years of talk and false starts, much of the local response to domestic violence will now be under one roof in Midtown.

Memphis Mayor A C Wharton Jr. and Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell announced Monday the opening of the long-planned Family Safety Center in the Madison Professional Building at 1750 Madison Ave.

16. State Approves Move For Planned Parenthood -

The board for the Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency this week approved Planned Parenthood of Greater Memphis Region’s plans to move from 1407 Union Ave. to 1750 Madison Ave.

17. Diocese: Proposed Abortion, Women’s Health Site Too Close to School -

The Catholic Diocese of Memphis says the proposed new location for Planned Parenthood on Madison Avenue is too close to its high school.

The Rev. Michael P. Joyce, chancellor for the diocese, wrote a letter to the Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency opposing the application that Planned Parenthood of Greater Memphis Region has filed to relocate from 1407 Union Ave. to 1750 Madison. The board for the state agency is scheduled to review the certificate of need application next Wednesday.

18. Planned Parenthood, Others Seek New Locations -

Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region Inc. plans to move to another location in Midtown because its lease won’t be renewed, while the owner of two long-term care hospitals looks to build new facilities because of an eminent domain lawsuit.
