The final month of the quarter capped off a strong start to 2017 as the number of homes sold in Shelby County were up 20 percent in March and 13 percent for the first quarter.
The average home sales price in March was $151,688, a 5 percent increase from $144,949 a year ago, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, chandlerreports.com.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Sales of previously occupied homes plunged last month to the lowest level in 15 years, despite the lowest mortgage rates in decades and bargain prices in many areas.
July’s sales fell by more than 27 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 3.83 million, the National Association of Realtors said Tuesday. It was the largest monthly drop on records dating back to 1968, and sharp declines were recorded in all regions of the country.

The local real estate industry suffered a setback in July, as new and existing home sales declined a staggering 21 percent from the same month a year ago.
Shelby County’s housing market saw just 1,161 home sales last month, down from 1,475 in July 2009 and also down 26 percent from 1,570 in June, according to the latest data from real estate information company Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com.
