That’s according to information compiled by STR presented at the Southern Lodging Summit Wednesday morning, Aug. 30, at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis. The Southern Lodging Summit is an annual event hosted by Pinkowski & Co. and the Metropolitan Memphis Hotel and Lodging Association.

BLUE SPRINGS, Miss. – Elation was the emotion most evident at Thursday afternoon’s announcement ceremony held in the cavernous Toyota assembly plant here.

Although 500 people were invited to hear the official declaration of Toyota’s intention to begin producing Corollas at the plant near Tupelo in Northeast Mississippi in the fall of 2011, estimates pegged the crowd nearer to 900.

50. Kuhn Proposal Lifts Commission Mood -

Shelby County Commissioners needed some levity this week as the year neared its end and the 2010 election season waited in the wings.
The body slogged through a battle for the chairmanship in September, 26 rounds of voting for an interim county mayor in November and more bad blood this week, including dueling motions to honor a former commissioner and a proposal to run a bus shuttle for county employees that workers on foot could beat.
So when Commissioner Matt Kuhn got down on one knee in the chamber and proposed to the deputy director of the county Department of Community Services, Heidi Verbeek, commissioners were happy to find unanimity in wishing the couple well.
Then they got back to business.

51. Ford Resigns - Buehler Clears Last Hurdle - Kuhn Proposes -

Shelby County Commissioners have put off a vote on a new commissioner for two weeks.

Commercial real estate deals used to be hammered out in boardrooms, but with the rise of foreclosures in that sector, many of them are now being negotiated at the courthouse.

The steps of the Shelby County Courthouse proved to be a hot spot for high-dollar, high-profile commercial deals in June, a month that saw the most lucrative transaction and two of the top three sales occur following foreclosures.

NASHVILLE (AP) – Candidates seeking to lead the Tennessee Republican Party say they are more concerned about keeping their history-making majority in the Legislature than whether the House speaker should be allowed to regain his party credentials.

What a difference a PR team, higher elevation, more condos, a bigger price tag, a new dog walk, fresh landscaping, restaurant and retail space make.

When it comes to the current set of plans for redeveloping the ornate, castle-like Tennessee Brewery in Downtown Memphis, the latest team of developers and investors has picked up where their forerunners either couldn't or wouldn't go. And those extra touches may have finally assured the success of the project, which has been tried several times over the years.

In the past few years, the sleepy suburb of Bartlett has blossomed from a bedroom community into a boom town.
