Limited lot space, lack of lumber and a labor shortage are just a few of the reasons behind increasing home sales prices in Shelby County.

In June, the average home sales price was $192,514, an 8 percent increase from $178,655 a year ago, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, chandlerreports.com.

The Whitehaven mainstay was bought in a March 31 substitute trustee’s sale by an entity called 1215 East Shelby Drive Holdings LLC. The sale did not include the mall’s two anchor spaces – the Sears store on the west end and the shuttered Macy’s on the east end.

7. Precinct Breakdown Maps Mayoral Race Battlefield -

A precinct-by-precinct breakdown of the vote in the Memphis mayor’s race shows Mayor-elect Jim Strickland carried eight of the 10 highest turnout precincts, five of them with better than 65 percent of the vote.

13. Real Estate Gloom Far From Over, Numbers Show -

The first two months of 2009 are in the books, and the real estate market has shown no signs of improving. For the second straight month, home sales declined by a third from the same month a year ago, proof that housing still needs to dig itself out of a deep hole.

17. Q1 Business License Filings Up, Up, Up -

Shelby County has started the year with business filings at a three-year high, and areas from Cordova to Hickory Hill are getting into the act.

Valarie Thomas, owner of Distinct Wrappers and Beyond, filed for a business license in early January in Cordova because that's where she and her husband live. The business makes custom candy bar wrappers for birthday parties and other special events.
