City leaders are holding a second series of public meetings toward putting together the comprehensive Memphis 3.0 plan for the city’s future.

The effort by Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland began late last year.

The second series of Memphis 3.0 public meetings kicks off with three meetings this week:
• Saturday, March 25, 10 a.m.: Oakhaven High School, 3125 Ladbrook Road
• Tuesday, March 28, 5:30 p.m.: Hollywood Community Center, 1560 N. Hollywood St.
• Thursday, March 30, 5:30 p.m.: Glenview Community Center, 1141 S. Barksdale St.

6. Precinct Breakdown Maps Mayoral Race Battlefield -

A precinct-by-precinct breakdown of the vote in the Memphis mayor’s race shows Mayor-elect Jim Strickland carried eight of the 10 highest turnout precincts, five of them with better than 65 percent of the vote.

15. Sales Tax Hike Early Voting Expands -

Early voting in the last elections of 2013 expands Tuesday, Nov. 12, to 15 satellite voting sites across Memphis.

The early voting period, underway since Nov. 1 and ending Nov. 16, is for the only citywide election of an unusually busy political year that has featured 11 elections in three months.

16. School Board Fields Almost Set as Early Voting Ends -

So far, the Nov. 7 municipal school board races in Arlington and Collierville will be a formality.

The withdrawal deadline for candidates who have filed to run in the six sets of elections in Shelby County’s suburban towns and cities is Thursday, Oct. 3, at noon.

17. Early Voting Expands in District 91 Primary -

Early voting in the Democratic primary special election for State House District 91 expands Friday, Sept. 27, from the Shelby County Election Commission’s Downtown offices, 157 Poplar Ave., to three satellite locations.

Early voting opens Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the Democratic primary special election for State House District 91.

From Wednesday through Sept. 26, early voting is limited to the Shelby County Election Commission office at 157 Poplar Ave.

19. Early Voting Count Suggests High Election Day Turnout -

Early voting in advance of the Oct. 6 Election Day in Memphis cracked 30,000 of the city’s 426,583 voters.

Because early voting in Memphis elections usually doesn’t account for even half of the overall voter turnout, the early voter turnout suggests the total voter turnout may be in double-digit percentages. That is low, but not as low as some politicos had predicted for the ballot topped by a mayor’s race and contests for all 13 seats on the Memphis City Council.

20. Health Dept. to Offer Flu Shots at 3 Poll Sites -

The Memphis and Shelby County Health Department will offer free flu shots for adults at three polling places on Election Day, Tuesday.

The three polling places are Glenview Community Center at 1141 S. Barksdale St., Hickory Hill Community Center at 3910 Ridgeway Road and Raleigh Community Center at 3678 Powers Road.

21. Power to the People -

Early voting has set a record for city elections.

A little more than 74,000 voters cast early ballots in 15 locations over the 14-day early voting period in advance of Thursday's city election. It ended Saturday afternoon. The total is 16.2 percent of the city's registered voters.

22. Early Voting Tally Doesn't Reveal Top Contenders -

After the first full week of early voting in the 2007 Memphis elections, a little more than 6 percent of the city's 460,000 registered voters have cast their ballots. And most of them - 61 percent - have been women.

The Memphis Regional Chamber hosts its Breakfast Forum today from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Hilton Memphis, 939 Ridge Lake Blvd. Andy Dolich, president of business operations for the Memphis Grizzlies, will speak on "What the Grizzlies Mean to Memphis and the NBA Draft." The Memphis Regional Chamber will hold an event called "Today's Wellness" today from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Memphis Botanic Garden, 750 Cherry Road. The event is free and open to the public, and lunch is included. Limited space is available and reservations can be made by calling 543-3571.

The Engineers' Club of Memphis hosts its weekly meeting and lunch today at noon at the Holiday Inn-University of Memphis, 3700 Central Ave. Nisha Powers of Powers Hill Design LLC is the guest speaker. The event is $12 and no reservations are required.
