63. Wood Honored As Theater’s ‘Superior Volunteer’ -

Bennett Wood made his acting debut as a second-grader playing George Washington in a historical pageant.

Today, Wood can be found on the big screen, the small screen and on stage at Theatre Memphis, and his work there has earned him the Robert E. Gard Superior Volunteer Award from the American Association of Community Theatre.

64. Theatre Memphis Starts Emergency Fund -

Theatre Memphis has established a need-based community fund for Memphis theater community staff and volunteers facing medical needs and other serious challenges.

The fund was established after a cherished local actor, who had no medical insurance coverage, suffered a stroke.

65. Funds Needed to Upgrade Theater Wireless -

Due to a congressional ruling, Theatre Memphis is in the midst of a fundraising campaign to replace $30,000 worth of wireless microphones and related equipment.

As of June 12, anyone operating on the 700-megahertz bandwidth was required to vacate those frequencies, which have been sold by the federal government primarily to wireless carriers and public safety responders nationwide.
