14. LYFE Kitchen Pays $3M For East Memphis Spot -

LYFE Kitchen has purchased its East Memphis location from a division of Memphis-based Carlisle Corp.

LYFE bought the restaurant at 6201 Poplar Ave. from Wendelta Property Holdings LLC for $3 million, according to a May 29 warranty deed.

LYFE Kitchen, a unique California-based restaurant concept, will move its headquarters to Memphis and open two locations – one in Downtown and another in East Memphis.

Palo Alto, Calif.-based LYFE, which stands for Love Your Food Everyday, will open a restaurant in the former Sharky’s Gulf Grill location at 6201 Poplar Ave. and another inside Downtown’s Chisca Hotel, now under construction.

20. Bankruptcy Filings Drop Below 3,000 -

For the first time since 2011, the number of Memphis-area bankruptcies filed in the second quarter dropped below 3,000.

Between April 1 and June 30, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Tennessee saw 2,959 bankruptcies in which the person or business listed a Shelby County address. That’s a 6.4 percent decrease from the 3,164 filed during the second quarter of 2013, according to The Daily News Online, memphisdailynews.com.

21. Sharky's Closes Following Chapter 11 -

Sharky’s Gulf Grill, an upscale seafood establishment in East Memphis, has closed its doors.

Sharky's Gulf Grill LLC, which opened in 2009 and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April, closed the restaurant in the 6,300-square-foot building at 6201 Poplar Ave. in East Memphis, which is prime commercial real estate space.

RABF Holdings LLC, an investment group headed by Bernard Farber, has applied for a $350,000 permit with the city-county Office of Construction Code Enforcement for renovations at 6201 Poplar Ave., the site of a former Steak & Ale restaurant.

A $2 million retail center – co-anchored by a gas station/convenience store and a Subway restaurant with a detached automated car wash – will rise soon at 4356 Forest Hill-Irene Road in Southeast Memphis, the project’s developer confirmed last week.
