13. Early Vote Turnout Lags Behind 2010 -

Early voting turnout in advance of the Nov. 4 Election Day was running about 17,000 voters behind the early vote turnout four years ago for the same election cycle through the second and final weekend in the early voting period.

22. Hedge Fund Collapse Leaves Mark On Memphis -

A hedge fund manager convicted of swindling $450 million from investors and who had been sentenced earlier this year for his actions was supposed to report to prison in Massachusetts recently. But Samuel Israel III, one of the founders of the Connecticut-based Bayou Group, never showed up.

23. Hedge Fund Bankruptcy Echoes in Memphis -

A ripple effect continues to be felt in Memphis in the wake of a Connecticut hedge fund firm's 2005 collapse, something federal prosecutors have said was the result of a $300 million fraud.

That scandal involved a group of funds connected to the Bayou Group, formerly based in Stamford, Conn. In 2006, one of Bayou's co-founders admitted that investors had been lured into putting up money by the creation of false financial statements that masked the truth what they were getting into, according to an Associated Press report.
