1. New Maciel’s Concept Coming to Broad Avenue District -

A new Maciel’s location is in the works, coming to the site behind Rec Room on Broad Avenue that previously housed French Truck Coffee.

Set to open on April 2, it will be something of a twist on the Maciel’s concept – called Maciel’s Bodega – and smaller than the Maciel’s Highland restaurant that just opened in February. Rather than a third full-fledged Maciel’s, which also has restaurants Downtown and in the University of Memphis area, Maciel’s Bodega will be more like a location number 2.5 for the brand.

4. This Week in Memphis History: October 9-15 -

2014: Stevie Wonder receives the first Epitome of Soul Award from the Consortium Memphis Music Town. The show, held at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts, also featured performances by Chaka Khan, BeBe Winans, Jordan Sparks and Eddie Levert. It’s not the first award Wonder has received in Memphis; he was a recipient of the National Civil Rights Museum’s Freedom Award in 2006.

17. Highland Strip Area Starts to Sizzle -

After years of inactivity, the area around the Highland Stip is starting to pick up as property renovations and other new developments continue.

Probably the most visible new addition has been RP Billiards at 525 S. Highland St. The building housed the Highland Cue for about 25 years.
