They say everything comes full circle. Especially when it comes to bicycles. So it seems fitting that even though the Bikesmith is changing ownership, its business model is shifting back to its beginnings – its mobile operations. The Bikesmith started as part of the MEMMobile program in 2014, which was a small-business incubator designed to launch a fleet of mobile retail trucks.

The Beale Street New Year’s Eve Celebration kicks off Sunday, Dec. 31, at 8:45 p.m. with a concert at Fourth Street and Beale. The B.B. King’s Blues Band featuring pop music icon Tito Jackson will headline the celebration of Memphis music leading up to a midnight fireworks show. Cost is free; visitors must be 21 or older. Memphis’ traveling bike repairman has finally found a home. A year and a half after enrolling in the Mayor’s Innovation Delivery Team initiative MEMMobile, Jim Steffen, known as The Bikesmith to cyclists needing an adjustment or a hail-Mary overhaul, has signed a lease on a brick-and-mortar extension of his mobile repair truck.
