15. Universal Life Building Developers Acquire Key Public Financing - Tuesday, April 14, 2015

Developers of the Universal Life Building have received approval for two key pieces of financing and a commitment from the city of Memphis to lease about half of the building.

Self-Tucker Properties LLC won approval Tuesday, April 14, for a nine-year payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement from the Center City Revenue Finance Corp. to renovate the building for office use. Architects Jimmie Tucker and Juan Self, principals of Self-Tucker Architects, also gained approval for $2 million in Qualified Energy Conservation Bonds for the project.

16. Malone Takes Early Vote In Mayoral Primary - Wednesday, May 7, 2014

Former Shelby County Commissioner Deidre Malone took the early vote in the three-way Democratic primary for Shelby County Mayor.

The first results of the Tuesday, May 6, election night showed Malone leading rivals county commissioner Steve Mulroy and former Shelby County Schools board member Kenneth Whalum Jr.

17. Corporations See Added Value in Volunteer Hours - Tuesday, August 24, 2010

The value of a corporate dollar may have seen some decreases in the last few years, but the value of a corporate hour – a volunteer hour that is – is going up.

In 2009 one volunteer hour was equal to $19.51 in labor value, up from $17.55 in 2005, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 2009 the Independent Sector, a coalition of national charities, raised the figure to $20.85.
