7. Deal Closes on $2.6M Sale of Highland Row Property -

Worthington Hyde Partners, working under the name Highland Row Land Partners LLC, has bought the 13 acres of vacant land slated to become Highland Row from Poag & McEwen Lifestyle Centers – Memphis LLC for $2.6 million. The deal closed Thursday, Nov. 17.

8. Highland Files $7.2M Permit for Church -

Highland Church of Christ – formerly Highland Street Church of Christ – has filed a $7.2 million permit application with the city-county Office of Construction Code Enforcement to build a 67,000-square-foot, multibuilding church campus at 400 S. Houston Levee Road, northeast of the Walnut Grove Road and Houston Levee intersection.

10. Highland Church Files $8.5M Construction Loan -

The Highland Street Church of Christ Memphis has filed an $8.5 million construction loan through BancorpSouth Bank to build its multibuilding church campus along Houston Levee Road, northeast of the Walnut Grove Road and Houston Levee intersection.

11. East Buntyn Residents Await Neighborhood Changes -

Residents of the East Buntyn Historic District near the University of Memphis are one step closer to meeting their newest neighbor, the long-anticipated Highland Row development.

Though some voiced uncertainty about the development at first, excitement and curiosity have conquered concern.

In the fourth year of King Solomon's reign over Israel, 966 B.C., he began building a temple in Jerusalem that took him seven years to complete.

Highland Street Church of Christ's new facility near Houston Levee and Walnut Grove roads in Cordova currently is being designed and could be finished by mid-2008.

17. Shops at Highland Development Near University of Memphis Moves Forward -

Although he doesn't own a crystal ball, Josh Poag said he hopes to see The Shops at Highland University on the Highland Strip positively influence the area surrounding the University of Memphis.

Poag, executive vice president of Memphis-based real estate firm Poag & McEwen Lifestyle Centers, once lived in the area and said he thinks the community around the university is a great neighborhood with a lot of potential.

18. 'Close-Knit" and 'Well-Planned' Become Suburban Mantra -

A good title for a book about real estate development in Shelby County might be "The Rise and Sprawl of the American Dream."

One chapter could touch on how well-manicured suburbs like Germantown and Collierville have become magnets for growth. Another could show how those growth patterns have carried a few unwanted side effects, such as cookie-cutter subdivisions and retail strip centers.

19. What's Cooking on the Highland Strip? -

A few months ago, Marty Roberts was scouting for possible sites for a small retail complex. He bought what he considered a promising piece of vacant land along Park Avenue, where he's planning to begin construction soon on a 4,400-square-foot strip center.

20. Highland Strip Area Starts to Sizzle -

After years of inactivity, the area around the Highland Stip is starting to pick up as property renovations and other new developments continue.

Probably the most visible new addition has been RP Billiards at 525 S. Highland St. The building housed the Highland Cue for about 25 years.
