We really go for hot food brands around here – whether its restaurants or supermarkets. And it makes us suckers to some degree. I don’t mean that in a bad way. Memphis without being open to all possibilities and what others see as impossible is just not Memphis. But when it comes to the business of brands sometimes you start to wonder. We may be guilty of putting too much weight on a brand to solve problems that no brand anywhere can solve.

Wahlburgers – a burger chain that takes its name from executive chef Paul Wahlberg and celebrity brothers and actors Mark and Donnie – is opening this fall at 349 Beale Street on the southwest corner of Fourth and Beale – the corner where Sweetie Pie’s had planned to open years ago.

The Beale Street entertainment district has a new tenant on its eastern border with Fourth Street in a space that has been closed for 12 years.
Downtown Memphis Commission president Paul Morris tweeted Thursday, April 10, that Sweetie Pie’s, a soul food restaurant with three locations in St. Louis and plans for expansion in other cities, will open at 349 Beale St. on the southeast corner of Fourth and Beale streets.
