In Memphis Federal Court Monday morning, Memphis Police surveillance of protesters over the last two years is on the docket of U.S. District Judge Jon P. McCalla. McCalla ruled earlier this month in advance of the nonjury trial that police conducted “political surveillance” of protesters in violation of a 1978 federal court consent decree.

4. Gibson Guitar Factory Looking For New Home -

Nashville-based guitar maker Gibson Brands Inc. is putting its Downtown Memphis factory on the market as it looks for a new, smaller home.

The 18-year-old Gibson Beale Street Showcase and Guitar Factory – located on nearly six acres at 145 Lt. George W. Lee Ave., across South B.B. King Boulevard from FedExForum – clocks in at 127,620 square feet and has an adjacent 330-space parking lot. And it could be yours for $17 million.

A public meeting on the Pinch District redevelopment plan will take place Tuesday, Nov. 22, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Balinese Ballroom, 330 N. With a national partner found in Live Nation Entertainment, the New Daisy Theater is getting all dolled up to host nearly 200 musical acts annually.

The job doesn't just call for a new coat of paint to cover the decades of graffiti: the historic theater at 330 Beale is getting a complete overhaul.

26. Live Nation Buys Stake In Bonnaroo Music Festival -

Concert promoter and ticket seller Live Nation said Tuesday that it bought a controlling stake in annual music festival Bonnaroo.

The purchase will boost Live Nation’s portfolio of music festivals, which attract hundreds of thousands of people paying hefty ticket prices. Late last year, it bought a controlling stake in Lollapalooza.

27. Beale Panel Faces Conflict-of-Interest Questions -

The new city panel that would guide the long-term development and possible expansion of Beale Street isn’t quite ready to begin work yet.

The Memphis City Council gave its conditional approval Tuesday, April 21, to Mayor A C Wharton Jr.’s 13 nominees for the new Beale Street Tourism Development Authority provided 11 of them provide written statements swearing they have no direct financial interest in Beale Street businesses.

On the sidewalk in front of the New Daisy Theater on Beale Street are two brass music notes, side by side. One honors the late Mid-South Concerts promoter Bob Kelley and the other honors Mike Glenn, the New Daisy’s long-time operator.

30. Malone Takes Early Vote In Mayoral Primary -

Former Shelby County Commissioner Deidre Malone took the early vote in the three-way Democratic primary for Shelby County Mayor.

The first results of the Tuesday, May 6, election night showed Malone leading rivals county commissioner Steve Mulroy and former Shelby County Schools board member Kenneth Whalum Jr.
