The Memphis Irish Society is enrolling for its 2016 Irish Gaelic class, set to begin Saturday, Jan. 9, in the Germantown area (contact for exact venue). The class is free, informal, and is open to all adults and children of middle-school age and older. It will meet most Saturdays throughout the year with some breaks. Safer Shelby Summit, a roundtable discussion of criminal justice reforms the Tennessee Legislature will consider this year, will be held Thursday, Jan. 7, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Wade Auditorium at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, 1 N. Front St. State Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Brian Kelsey has invited local leaders to participate.

Tennessee Department of Revenue will hold a free tax workshop for new businesses Thursday, Jan. 7, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Renaissance Center’s Memphis Training Room, 555 Beale St. Tax specialists from local and state agencies will provide information and answer questions on complying with registration and tax requirements.
