10. Former C’ville Fitness Center Sells For $2.7M -

Memphis-based Hackmeyer Properties has bought the former Prairie Life Fitness Center at 3690 S. Houston Levee Road in Collierville from Prairie Life Fitness LLC for $2.7 million and is leasing the 57,264-square-foot facility to a new fitness company.

In 2008, something was brewing in the area near Cleveland and Watkins streets south of Poplar Avenue in Midtown.

A developer, Tom Marsh, working with Florida-based WSG Development, had unveiled plans for a mixed-use development to include small and large retail, including a Target store, condominiums, apartments and medical offices, along with all-around improvements to the neighborhood known as Crosstown.

A Center City Commission-affiliated board on Wednesday approved almost $270,000 in financial incentives to support developing new businesses, jobs and service providers Downtown.

That money will finance a wide range of activity, from South Main Street to the Downtown core. The new business activity includes the renovation of a long-vacant storefront at the intersection of Main Street and Union Avenue as well as the move of a new tenant into that space.
