1. Seivers in College Hall? Yeah, Sure, Why Not? -

Don’t look for any campaign propaganda to be mailed out. There won’t be any personal stumping. Heck, Larry Seivers even refused to fluff up his own bio.

If the former University of Tennessee two-time All-America wide receiver finds his way into the College Football Hall of Fame, it will happen because of the numbers and the memories that made him one of the game’s best in the 1970s.

2. ‘Ugly’ Titans Offense Can No Longer Be Ignored -

It had been festering for weeks, but the Tennessee Titans seemed to push the matter aside as they were squeezing out close wins against the NFL’s third-easiest schedule.

“Winning ugly” is how it was seen through rose-colored glasses, with an 8-4 record as exhibit 1.

3. AFC South Membership Only Thing Saving Titans -

Right now, the best thing that can be said about the Tennessee Titans is they play in the AFC South, where someone’s mediocrity will be rewarded with a playoff berth come Dec. 31.

After the past two weeks – a 57-14 shellacking at Houston followed by an abysmal offensive performance in Sunday’s 16-10 loss in Miami – that’s about all the Titans have to hang their hat on in what began as a promising season with strong playoff aspirations.

4. Beale Street Task Force Outlines Two Cover Charge Options -

A Beale Street Task Force assembled this summer to consider the future of a spring and summer cover charge Saturday nights after 10 p.m. in the district is recommending the cover charge stay.

The task force, in its last meeting Monday, Oct. 2, also recommended the return of Beale Street Bucks in some form – coupons given to those paying the cover charge that can be redeemed in most Beale businesses Saturdays and Sundays.

5. Last Word: Political Tide Comes In, First Tn and Pinnacle Settle and The No Compete -

In East Memphis Thursday afternoon, Shelby County Trustee David Lenoir will formally announce what has been evident for some time – he is running for Shelby County Mayor in 2018 starting with the May Republican primary. The primary field includes Shelby County Commissioner Terry Roland and Juvenile Court Clerk Joy Touliatos. Shelby County Commissioner Sidney Chism is the only declared Democratic mayoral contender as we speak. Look for that to change.

6. Last Word: Booksellers Options, New Parking Spaces and The Memphis Open -

Somewhere in the back of our minds, I think most of us knew there were probably some circumstances under which Booksellers at Laurelwood might remain open. And as it turns out there are some terms the owner is talking about just past the post-New Year’s shock of work that the store will close in February.

7. Titans Turnaround? Only If They Can Beat Colts -

A single two-point victory at home over the worst team the NFL has to offer this season might not sound like much of an accomplishment.

But for the Tennessee Titans it was definitely a step back toward respectability. 

8. Liberty Bowl to Recognize Archie Manning With Award -

The Liberty Bowl will present Archie Manning its Distinguished Citizen Award, an honor the organization considers its most prestigious recognition.

Liberty Bowl officials announced Friday that Manning would be the guest of honor June 19 in Memphis at the kickoff event of the Liberty Bowl Golf Classic, which benefits St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Memphis Irish Society will host a family-friendly St. Patrick’s Day parade in Cooper-Young on Thursday, March 17, at 10 a.m. The route starts at First Congregational Church, 1000 S. Cooper St., and travels north to Memphis Made Brewing, 768 S. Cooper St. Visit memphisirish.com.

12. Terry Manning Photography Exhibit Coming to Memphis -

The Stax Museum of American Soul Music will welcome Stax Records and Ardent Studios legend Terry Manning back to Memphis next month for his new photography exhibit, “Terry Manning: Scientific Evidence of Life on Earth During Two Millennia.”

13. Equality of Partners a Problem for Titan Owners -

It’s the question that won’t go away – will the Tennessee Titans be sold. On the day the Titans formally introduced Jon Robinson as general manager and Mike Mularkey as head coach, team president Steve Underwood admitted that the NFL is not happy with the team’s ownership structure, which is split evenly among Bud Adams’ heirs.

14. Bertelkamp Made Right Call in Going with the Vols -

Bert Bertelkamp would be the first to tell you he’s pulling for Tennessee when calling basketball games as color commentator for the Vol Network.

And why wouldn’t he?

Bertelkamp is Big Orange to the bone. His father Hank played for the Vols (1951-53), was a team captain and remains a big supporter of UT.

15. Titans Face Number of Questions As Season Ends -

The Tennessee Titans are on the clock. If they lose to the Indianapolis Colts in Sunday’s season finale, the Titans franchise will have the first pick in the 2016 NFL Draft for the first time since the Houston Oilers took Earl Campbell first overall in 1978.

16. Tigers’ Paxton Lynch Named Offensive Player of the Week -

University of Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch was selected American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for 384 yards and three touchdowns in the Tigers’ 37-24 victory over Ole Miss Saturday, Oct. 16.

17. Fuente, Lynch Earn Weekly Honors -

In the aftermath of the Saturday, Oct. 17, University of Memphis football win over Ole Miss, U of M coach Justin Fuente has been named the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week.

And Tigers quarterback Paxton Lynch has been named offensive player of the week by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.

18. Three Games In, How Much Better are Titans? -

At some point, the Tennessee Titans have to grow up.

After blowing an opportunity to take the early lead in the AFC South by letting it slip away against the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday, the Titans now head into their bye week on a downturn with two consecutive losses.

19. Don’t View Sunday’s Opener as Mariota vs. Winston -

Don’t think for a minute that the schedule makers at the NFL office didn’t set this one up.

It is more than coincidence that Marcus Mariota opens his professional football career against fellow rookie Jameis Winston when the Titans face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

The Tennessee Titans welcome back a familiar face Sunday night when Jeff Fisher rolls back into Nashville as coach of the St. Louis Rams.

When the Tennessee Titans hired Ken Whisenhunt in January, it brought a breath of fresh air to an organization that sorely needed a change.
